Face & Body

Botox

Everytime we laugh, frown, smile or squint, expression muscles contract, folding and pulling the skin that sits atop the muscle. Years of repeated muscles contractions cause the overlying skin to form permanent creases, known as dynamic wrinkles. Botox acts as a neuromodulator, temporarily relaxing the muscle activity that leads to these fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is the most popular non-invasive cosmetic treatment in the world and the only FDA approved treatment to reduce frown lines and crow’s feet. Botox treatments will rejuvenate the area around the eyes, brow and forehead while providing great results for forehead frown lines, crow’s feet, lip wrinkles, mouth frown and orange peel chins. It can also halt the formation of dynamic wrinkles in young adults.

Hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating (also known as Hyperhidrosis) can occur anywhere on the body but is most often encountered on the hands, feet or underarms. Botox (or Dysport) blocks the chemical transmitter that causes sweating. The injection of Botox in the armpit area blocks the chemical transmitter that causes sweat for about 3 to 6 months.

Dysport

This injection is similar to botox. Dysport injections relaxes the muscles under your skin so the area treated becomes smoother and gives the face a much more youthful appearance. Dysport is used primarily for wrinkle treatment in the face area. It will help relax muscles in the face that create unwanted expressions, such as crows feet, frown lines between the brows and lines in the forehead.

Bruxism

Bruxism is a condition in which you excessively grind, gnash, or clench your teeth. To treat this condition, a few tiny injections of Botox are administered into the main muscle responsible for grinding, the masseter muscle. Botox effectively weakens this muscle but does not affect eating, chewing or talking.

Kybella

Kybella is an formulation of deoxycholic acid that is injected in the chin. This treatment solution destroys fat cells and will improve the appearance of fat beneath the chin, also known as “double chin!”

PDO Threads

The PDO thread (polydioxanone) lift is a non-invasive treatment that can be used anywhere in the body to create lifting and tightening. Novathreads are hypodermic needles preloaded with a synthetic PDO absorbable suture. PDO sutures are surgical sutures that are used to perform cardiac surgery. All sutures are FDA-approved and PDO sutures are one of the safest materials that can be used in the body. Our skin is excellent at repairing itself, and by inserting the Novathreads underneath the skin to lift the loose skin, the skin will heal itself by creating new collagen naturally! Main areas of treatment are lips, upper lips, chin, eyebrow lift, face, neck, face and neck, knees, chest, abdomen and thighs to improve cellulite.

Your skin will fully absorb the Novathread within 4 to 6 months without leaving any scar tissue. While the sutures are underneath the skin, however, your skin gently reacts to the skin creating a “selective inflammatory response” to produce collagen to create a longer-lasting result: This principle is behind a lot of aesthetic procedures (such as fractionated lasers, skin tightening treatments and microneedling).

PRF Microfacial (Platelet Rich Fibrin)

A sample of your blood is collected in the PRF tubes, the spun in order to separate your red blood cells from everything else. The final product is the PRF which contains your own platelets, white blood cells and mesenchymal stem cells. This is placed on the face and micro-needled. This helps the skin look vibrant, reduces the fine lines, reduces pores, dark spots, and gives back a more youthful skin using your own growth factors!

PRF can also be injected under the eyes to tighten and brighten the skin, and also injected in the lips for a more natural lip enhancement.

FAQS

PRP stands for “platelet-rich plasma” – a concentrated version of blood that is rich with healing and growth factors. PRP can be used for “regenerative” injections, in which a patient’s own blood is used to deliver those healing factors directly to the desired area.

Uneven skin tone, fine wrinkles, stretch marks, hair loss, arthritis, erectile dysfunction, anorgasmia, urinary incontinence.

What happens during a PRP injection?

Blood is drawn from the patient and put into a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the platelet-rich plasma.

The platelet-rich plasma is then transferred into a syringe to be injected into the injured area. Platelets’ main function is clotting blood, but platelets also contain numerous molecules that act as “growth factors” – these molecules are essential for healing.

The procedure typically takes 30-40 minutes to complete.
During the treatment there may be some discomfort with the injection of the platelets, and after the treatment there may be a temporary increase in pain, swelling and bruising.

For one month after the injection, patients need to avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS); however, acetaminophen may still be used.

BOTOX® is a protein complex that interferes with muscle contraction. It temporarily blocks nerve stimulation of muscles where it is injected, so that muscle contraction is weakened or inhibited.

BOTOX® has been safely used for many years to treat spasms of the muscles that move the eye (strabismus) and uncontrollable blinking (blepharospasm). In 2002 it was approved by the FDA for cosmetic use, and since that time it has been marketed as BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Many facial wrinkles and creases are active lines caused by muscle contraction, which can be blocked by BOTOX® injection. The effect is temporary, usually lasting 3 to 6 months. With repeated injection, the effect may last up to 5 or 6 months. Although some wrinkles and creases may completely disappear (temporarily), it is important to understand that some may improve but not completely disappear.

Many facial wrinkles and creases are active lines caused by muscle contraction, which can be blocked by Botox® injection. At Dr C’s MedSpa, we safely and effectively treat the upper face, mid face and lower face with Botox®.

BOTOX® is precisely injected through a tiny needle into specific facial muscles. The areas to be injected are cooled with an ice pack immediately prior to injection to significantly reduce needle discomfort. The complete treatment lasts just one to three minutes (depending on the number of areas being treated) and does not require the use of topical or local anesthetics. BOTOX® begins to show its effect after 5-7 days, although some patients report a noticeable difference the very next day.

The platelet-rich plasma is then transferred into a syringe to be injected into the injured area. Platelets’ main function is clotting blood, but platelets also contain numerous molecules that act as “growth factors” – these molecules are essential for healing.

The effect of BOTOX® is dose-dependent, and thus the degree of muscle contraction impairment can be varied by the amount of BOTOX® that is administered in any given treatment area. The philosophy at Dr C’s MedSpa has always been conservative and natural.

Nobody seems to miss being able to scowl, but everybody wants to retain the ability to express hope, surprise or concern. Thus injection of the forehead to reduce horizontal creases should be conservative. Over-treatment of the forehead will also have the effect of lowering the brows, which is without question an undesirable BOTOX® result.

Patients will often if they can “get rid of this line” in regards to facial lines and wrinkles that may not necessarily contribute to the appearance of age or fatigue. Our strong feeling about the softening of facial lines and wrinkles is this: if it doesn’t ‘age’ you, and it doesn’t make you look tired or worried, then don’t spend your hard-earned money trying to make it go away. Some lines actually do add warmth and character to the face, and an older face with NO lines usually looks a bit odd.

A truly remarkable consequence of BOTOX® administration is the gradual complete disappearance of deep, vertical furrows between the eyebrows (frown or ‘scowl’ lines). With long-standing muscle contraction, the vertical lines between the brows may become actual physical clefts or grooves in the dermis, resulting in creases that are still apparent even when the skin is spread apart tightly with a finger on each side of the crease. In such instances, the initial Botox® injection will soften but not completely eliminate the deep furrow. With regular BOTOX® treatment, however, such that the frown muscles are never allowed to fully regain their normal ability to contract, the deep furrows may gradually fade completely.

Permanent improvement in other facial wrinkles and creases can be accomplished with a variety of techniques, including non-invasive laser skin rejuvenation, laser resurfacing, structural fat grafting and surgery. Not all wrinkles are appropriate ‘targets’ for BOTOX®, so the evaluation and treatment of every face must be individualized and assessed by an expert.

BOTOX ® is an injectable pharmacologic agent, and is most appropriately administered in a medical setting. It is my feeling that a ‘party’ is not the appropriate setting for the administration of a medical treatment, particularly an injectable one. The ‘BOTOX party’ that is held outside of a medical setting is a marketing strategy used to promote the treatment and to perhaps make it less intimidating to the general public.

Before joining the ‘party’, ask yourself the following questions:

Have I been asked to provide a complete medical history?
Have I been advised of alternative treatments?
Have risks or potential complications been discussed?
Have I been asked to give my informed consent?
Will I receive adequate follow-up care?

The results of a chemical peel vary depending on the peel that you receive. A superficial peel only slightly reduces the signs of aging and skin damage and the results are minimal unless used in cycles on a consistent basis. This way is generally the safer approach to take because you have less downtime and more peels can be used in a shorter amount of time. Typically it takes a few peels to start noticing a difference in blemishes. After one peel you should notice a difference in the texture and smoothness of your skin. It will feel much more refreshed after shedding the old dead skin cells off. One thing to remember is always be patient when using a chemical peel, many expect to see miracles in just one peel. The best approach is to take is slower and start with a lower strength peel, then you can work your way up to applying it on a regular basis, with consistency you will see positive results. Results will vary from person to person, each person will always have a unique experience with each peel.

In general, users only feel a mild stinging sensation during light or medium chemical peels. After the procedure, a mild pain reliever may be taken to relieve any discomfort, if necessary. This is uncommon and typically not needed if using a mild beginner’s peel.
